SUSSEX DAY

 

Sunday 16th June 2019

 

A Creative feast - A concert by local musicians, lunches and an evening barbeque in aid of Demelza Hospice care for Children, an exhibition of local landscape art, sculpture, open gardens, craft stalls, cream teas and a bar. 

The Sussex Day events and other Summer Trifle events at Pickhams in 2019 are all made possible with funds from the National Lottery Community Fund.

 

OPEN GARDENS & ART EXHIBITION

11am - 7pm

Entrance to the gardens & gallery is free but donations are invited. There will be garden sculptures and art installations including ‘nests’ which we have commissioned artists to create.

Refreshments and yummy cakes available until 5pm.

MUSIC INSPIRED BY SUSSEX 

2.30pm - 5.30pm

Local musicians have been inspired to write songs about the local landscape and characters for many years - The Kimberleys perform a collection of traditional folk songs from the British Isles and are fast gaining a reputation for exhilarating live performances. David Lofts will charm you with expert guitar playing and smooth vocal style, Nick Cant has a huge range of songs from traditional and contemporary sources and Milton Hide write and perform all of their own songs, mainly inspired by places and people close to their home in Wilmington.

DEMELZA LUNCH

12pm - 2pm

Volunteer fundraisers for Demelza Hospice for Children will be providing lunches. 

£6.60 per person.

Ticket includes one of the following, plus salad and a dessert:

  • Vegetarian quiche, roll & butter

  • Scotch egg, roll & butter

  • Jumbo sausage roll,  roll & butter

  • Ham sandwich on white or brown bread

  • Cheese sandwich on white or brown bread

  • Egg/cress/mayo sandwich on white or brown bread

  • Vegan sandwich options available - please ask.

 

 There will also be an evening barbeque in aid of Demelza from 6pm - 8pm.

 

PICKHAMS AWARD

5.30pm 

The Summer Trifle committee will launch the Pickhams Award which will be presented at the end of the year for the performance, exhibit or creation at Pickhams that best embodies 'Sussex'.

 

 

QUIRKY SUSSEX - TALK

6pm - 7pm

This is a light-hearted talk by Kevin Gordon, showing some rather strange Sussex places and people. You will learn about the Zulu Hole, Pyramids, Stuffed kittens and Toad in the Hole and many more examples of old and new Sussex quirkiness! 

The perfect end to Sussex Day.
